Training: Personal Safety Awareness
Providing staff with the knowledge and understanding needed to enhance their personal safety, both in the workplace and in public space en route to or from work. The course raises their confidence in dealing with any such attack on or threat to their personal safety.

Learning Outcomes
The aim of this training unit is to provide participants with improved awareness of their own personal safety in the workplace and in public space. They are provided with the knowledge and understanding necessary to avoid and escape dangerous situations and some basic tactics and techniques for dealing with any attack or threat to their personal safety.
The objectives of this training unit are to ensure that participants are able to:
- Explain the concept of constant situational awareness
- Identify & assess the threats to personal safety presented by a range of scenarios
- Describe how to make use of escape routes, safe havens and sources of assistance
- Explain how to avoid and escape situations where personal safety is threatened
- Demonstrate for a range of ordinary items can be used to assist in defence
- Describe simple tactics and techniques to use when personal safety is threatened
Course Contents
- Constant situational awareness and the range of threats that may be encountered
- Identifying and assessing threats from people, objects and places
- Identifying possible escape routes, safe havens and sources of assistance and support
- Avoiding and escaping potentially dangerous situations
- Making use of ordinary items to assist in defending oneself
- Basic tactics and techniques for use when personal safety is threatened
- Being aware of the threat you may be perceived to present to others
